Do you like movies? Why or why not?
I love movies. It’s a nice escape from your life for a few hours.
Where do you usually watch movies?
I like to go to the theater for the experience of the big screen, ambiance and popcorn. These days movies start streaming much more quickly so I will watch on my phone or TV more often.
What do you look for in a movie? Is there a specific genre?
I love rom-coms, but more recently a thriller or horror are my go to.
Is there an outside source (book, actor, recommendation) that usually informs your viewing? Do you have any actors that you tend to watch movies for?
I used to read Stephen King books and then watched the movie after. Anything with Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Ryan Reynolds, RDJ, Jason Schwartzman and Johnny Depp will always entice me to watch their movies.
Do you have a favorite movie? If you can remember, what was it like watching it for
the first time?
The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie. I remember watching it as a little girl every year around Christmas time on TV. This movie taught me lessons about family, friendship and believing in yourself -that really moved me. The scene when the door opens and the black and white screen turns color still gets me so excited to this day.
If you can remember, what’s the first movie you remember seeing?
The first movie I saw in the theater was The Muppet Movie. I was in Kindergarten at a birthday party. We all sat in the front row. I can still picture it. I remember
how in awe I was at the big screen.
Do you have a specific memory you have with a specific movie (not necessarily your favorite)?
The Wild Robot is a more recent favorite movie that I didn’t even want to watch. It surprised me how it put me through so many emotions. I never cried to much watching a movie.
What do you think is the best process in selecting a film to watch?
For me, the actor/actress is a big part for me. I don’t necessarily go off ratings as I have loved many that didn’t do that great. I don’t like to be pushed into seeing something but have been trying to be more open to suggestions.
Do you think your relationship with movies has changed since you started watching?
I think it has changed over the years. I was a horror/thriller movie teen that moved into mostly rom-coms. Now I have circled back to horror/thriller. I also love Disney movies as I became an avid traveler to Disney World in my adulthood.
Movie Memories:
Watching Singing in the Rain and The Apartment (I love Jack Lemmon) was a great memory with my daughter. She suggested we watch them at my reluctance, and I am glad I did. They were both great. I can say that we still say a couple specific lines from Singing in the Rain and laugh to this day.
Final Thoughts: Movies are not only a fun pastime, but way to bond with people you love. You can talk about them, laugh, critique and compare. Everyone sees it through their own eyes and fun to see their perspective.
